Bluenose Ghosts Festival

The Bluenose Ghosts Festival at Alderney Landing is a hauntingly enchanting event that draws thrill-seekers from far and wide. But behind the screams and shivers at the Bluenose Ghosts Festival, there is a team of dedicated haunted house volunteers who work to create a spine-tingling experience. Their passion for the eerie and their commitment to crafting fear make the festival an annual highlight for thrill-seekers in Halifax and Dartmouth. So, if you have a penchant for the paranormal and a desire to spook, consider joining the ranks of the haunted house volunteers and become a part of this chillingly delightful tradition. Volunteer opportunities include:

  1. Makeup Artists and Actors: Talented makeup artists turn actors into ghouls, zombies, and other frightening creatures. Their skills breathe life (or rather, death) into the haunted house. Acting volunteers are the heart and soul of the haunted house experience. They hone their skills to perfection, jumping out from dark corners and delivering spine-chilling lines with impeccable timing.
  2. Escape Room Attendant: Welcome participants and set the stage for their haunted adventure. Provide a brief introduction to the escape room’s rules and objectives. Observe participants as they progress through the escape room. Ensure they are safe, adhering to rules, and progressing toward the goal of escaping the room within the time limit. After each group completes the escape room or adventure, reset the room to its initial state, ensuring all props and clues are in their proper places for the next group.
  3. Managing the Line: When in a position of managing the lineup, you will be facilitating entry into the Haunted House by taking tickets and communicating with other staff. Familiarize yourself with safety protocols and emergency procedures and be prepared to briefly communicate rules to patrons.

While the work of a haunted house volunteer is physically demanding, the rewards are far from ordinary. Volunteers bond over their shared love of the macabre, forming lasting friendships with fellow thrill-seekers. The sense of accomplishment in scaring visitors and creating memorable experiences is immeasurable. Furthermore, volunteers gain valuable experience in teamwork and creative problem-solving.

If you are interested in volunteering for the Bluenose Ghosts Festival at Alderney Landing, you’re in for a terrifyingly good time. Aspiring volunteers can apply by emailing [email protected] and someone will be in touch with you soon.

Gallery Attendant

The Craig Gallery at Alderney Landing hosts a new exhibition each month, and with such a busy schedule we need more volunteers to help out as gallery attendants. The gallery attendant sits at the welcome desk and is responsible for greeting visitors, answering any questions they may have about the exhibit, and ringing through any sales. Becoming a Craig Gallery Volunteer is a wonderful opportunity to see and talk about a wide variety of art, meet new people, and help support the arts in Dartmouth. This position would be ideal for any students or retirees interested in the arts who have just a few hours to spare each month. Shifts in the gallery are 12:00-2:30pm OR 2:30-5:00pm Tuesday-Friday every week.
