The Nova Scotia Book Arts Group was formed in 2022 and consists of many local book arts practitioners and enthusiasts, from beginners to professionals.
“The book arts” are a particular category of art and craft processes that are historically associated with book production. This includes bookbinding, printing, papermaking, paper marbling, printmaking, and letterpress printing, as well as newer methods of artmaking inspired by the form and function of books.
In addition to creating traditional books and related products, many book arts practitioners use their skills to create what are broadly known
as artists books, or even more specifically, book art objects like those featured in this exhibit.
The intention of this collection is to showcase how artists may create art using traditional techniques, materials, or forms in nontraditional ways. It is
hopeful that the exhibit will provide viewers with a deeper appreciation of this art form and its place in contemporary art.
