Event Details

April 29th – May 25th, 2025
Opening Reception: Thursday, May 1st, 4pm-6pm

Sean Benton is an artist and university teacher working in Nova Scotia, CA. Sean currently teaches in the art department at St. Francis Xavier University and has taught art at Acadia University. Sean holds a diploma in Visual andCreative Arts from Sheridan College, a Bachelor of Art (Studio Art) from Brock University, and a Master of Education from the University of Ottawa. Painting is his primary artistic practice, where he examines the ongoing relationship between colour, value, and shape. His secondary practice is playing and writing music on guitar.

“In 2020, I made a stylistic change which went back to my roots of how I was taught to paint. This style focuses on a high contrast in lights and darks, a focus on the subtleties of colour, and an emphasis on shape and line. These elements are primarily what I use in my own practise and teach in my drawing and colour courses. The theme of my show doesn’t rely on subject matter but rather these characteristics I deem valuable to my practise and teaching.” — Sean Benton
