Mechanical Moments – A Collection of Kinetic Art

Pick a handful of memories. Nothing too exciting. Just simple experiences your mind returns to over the years — a perfect handshake, standing on a golf course in the sun, diving off a wharf into cold salt water. What if you could build a machine that captured a moment of your life using motors, gears, and small wooden figures? Mechanical Moments is an exhibit of kinetic (moving) art that includes my favourite explorations of this.

Chris Little is a Halifax/Kjipuktuk-based artist whose work has animated shop windows on Portland Street each Holiday season for the last four years. This exhibit includes revivals of two of those displays — flying families and traveling whales.
