The white dress is the quintessential symbol of the western wedding dress. Katherine deconstructs this image and reimagines it as the symbol of women’s oppression. This dress is the fourth in an ongoing feminist commentary on the institution of marriage as it affects women. Laundry Day is constructed with recycled dryer sheets. The dress appears ragged, a bit dirty and exhausted, thus representing women’s work within a traditional marriage.

“The paper quilt is a riff on the original red and white quilts and the invisible work of women. The stitching, the background and pieces of the star are mainly white reflecting the unseen labour, both physical and emotional, that women provide. For the red think menstruation, childbirth, death by a thousand cuts.”
